Treatment Programs

The program, Releasing Repetitive Strain Injuries, is an intensive short-term treatment program designed to eliminate or greatly reduce your RSI condition. After an initial consultation to discuss your history, symptoms, and work environment, a treatment plan is created to meet your individual needs. The program uses a common-sense, multilayerd approach to maximize reduction of your symptoms. The treatment program combines three elements:

1 Joseph working on a client Therapeutic Bodywork
The treatment program includes sessions of structural bodywork, once per week. The work is focused on the torso, shoulders, neck, arms, and hands. Even if the site of pain is localized, all of these areas are involved in the RSI condition. The bodywork focuses on releasing chronic tension and strain from the muscles and connective tissue (fascia). The pathways of the nerves and blood vessels feeding the arms and hands receive special attention, as it is often restrictions and impingements of these vital structures which give rise to RSIs.

The bodywork utilizes a mixed modality protocol ranging from deep tissue massage to myofascial release, to low force functional release techniques. It is important to address the structure and alignment of the client's body in order to reduce reoccurance of injuries. Gentler techniques are used to release restrictions in the blood vessels and nerves, which feed and travel through the affected areas.

Releasing chronic holding and tension in the body reduces symptoms, and creates a greater sense of ease of movement.

The key to regaining and maintaining your health is following up the structural body work sessions at the clinic with exercises at home. As part of the program, you will be given a homecare stretching program to follow.

The stretches are progressive from week to week, reaching different muscle groups while building on the previous week's lesson. This selfcare program can be continued long after the treatment sessions end to maintain flexibility and ease of movement.

3 Education
RSI Solutions believes strongly that knowledge is power. We encourage you to become an active participant in your healing.

The awareness of what is happening in your body and the muscle tissue allows you to ask questions and make choices:

  • How do your shoulders, arms, and hands feel today?
  • What activities are appropriate for you today?
  • Do you need to take a break, rest, or stretch?
  • Is your stress level high or low?

We encourage curiosity and voicing your questions and concerns. Enhanced body awareness is a key to recovery and management of RSIs.

Throughout the program you will be learning:

  • the dynamics of RSIs
  • body awareness techniques
  • how posture and body alignment influence the tension or ease in your arms
  • how proper body mechanics, ergonomics, and body awareness are the best defense against RSIs
  • how lifestyle choices impact the health of muscle tissue

You will become "the expert" of your body and Releasing Repetitive Strain Injuries.
